With Nu-Brain's deluxe Neurofeedback Home Care System, you will have all you need to conduct therapy at home using your own home computer or lap top*. This option is very cost-effective, especially in matters of long-term care such as for someone with brain injury or stroke, or for families with more than one member receiving neurofeedback therapy.

Initial Visit
An initial visit must be made to your nearest Nu-Brain office prior to beginning your in-home therapy sessions. During your visit, Nu-Brain will conduct various assessments and train you on the techniques for operating the Neurofeedback Home Care System. Nu-Brain is as close as a phone call, and will also maintain frequent contact through the emailing back and forth of your session reports and Nu-Brain's corresponding instructions.

Step 1 - Intake and History Interview
Nu-Brain conducts an intake and history interview with you. Here we discuss your areas of concern and your objectives. We then explain the various assessments that will be administered after the interview.

Step 2 - Assessments
In order to accomplish a comprehensive diagnosis, Nu-Brain utilizes various standardized assessment instruments that measure such things as intellectual functioning, behavioral functioning, attention, impulse control, hyperactivity, depression, anxiety, and more. Some evaluations are computerized, others are paper and pencil assessments. The need for a particular evaluation is determined in the intake interview.

Step 3 - Brain Map
The brain map process takes from one to two hours to complete. It is best to be off medications if possible for this assessment (discuss this with your prescribing physician). Try to have a good night's sleep and a good meal prior to the brain map. Your hair should be completely clean, without conditioners or hair sprays. The Nu-Brain technician will place an elasticized cap on the head that is able to measure the brain wave activity. After recording the EEG data, the technician sends the data by internet to our doctors for reading and interpretation.

Step 4 - Assessment Review & Treatment Plan
Nu-Brain will sit down with you to review all of these specialized evaluations and explain the doctor's recommended treatment protocol. Please note, however, that the brain map data takes a minimum of 48 hours to process, so a second visit to Nu-Brain may be required. The finished brain map contains an objective view of what is malfunctioning within the brain, as well as instructions on how to retrain the brain to improve and overcome these problems.

Step 5a - Training Equipment
The equipment for the Neurofeedback Home Care System is really simple to use and set up. Nu-Brain will explain each part and it's function and show you the proper way to set it up in preparation for a therapy session.

Step 5b - Training: Electrode Locations
An elastic stretch net is used to find the correct 10-20 International System of Electrode Sites to be trained. The elastic net fits snuggly over the head with holes directly over the site locations. The specific training sites can be easily marked with a red grease pencil and the net removed. The sites are easily seen so that the electrodes can be properly placed.

Step 5c - Training: Electrode Attachment
Electrodes are attached to the head using a thick contact cream that ensures a stable connection for the transmission of electrical brain waves. This cream can be easily removed with an alcohol pad or wet paper towel at the conclusion of the therapy session. Once the patient is properly "hooked UP" the actual therapy can begin.

Step 6a - Therapy at Home: Get Set-Up
Get comfortable and get hooked up. It's a good idea to remove distractions (such as curious little brothers) so that your therapy can progress without interruption. Don't stress if minor interruptions occasionally occur however, as it will not have a significant impact on your therapy session.

Step 6b - Therapy at Home: Concentrate
During therapy, your brainwave patterns change as you concentrate on the graphical representation on the screen. The software "game" essentially shapes the targeted brainwave toward the desired performance. After many sessions of training, the brain eventually finds the optimal state of functioning on its own, and the therapy is successful.

Step 7 - Email the Session Reports to Nu-Brain
As the sessions are completed in your home, the reports of each session are returned via email to Nu-Brain. These are reviewed by a Nu-Brain clinician and the next set of instructions are sent to you by email. This system provides personalized neurofeedback training under Nu-Brain's clinical coaching and supervision.
